After I took early retirement I started looking for opportunities to volunteer for a local charity. By chance James Hopkins Trust had just established their new centre in Barnwood which is about five minutes walk, from my house.
I had no real idea of the wonderful work they do until I had a look round. I found a wonderful caring group of people then headed by Vance and Heather Hopkins. The charity did, and still does provide exceptional respite care for children and their families. I had the honour of being the Mayor of Gloucester and had no hesitation in choosing to support James Hopkins Trust as a civic charity for that year.
I have been voluteering in support of the professional fundraising team since 2003. I have mainly helped with events such as Summer and Christmas Extravaganzas. I have also represented the charity at events organised by other groups such as the Frampton sheep racing.
It has been a privilege a happy experience, to support the charity with their fundraising. Amongst the fun and work the most important thing is to remember that all this is done to help local children and their families.
