Cheltenham Challenge
- By JHT
Sunday 19th June was Cheltenham Challenge day! The Cheltenham Challenge, a multi-terrain event offering 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, Full Marathon and Ultra (63k) distances. There is something for everyone, including experienced runners, novices, juniors, families, children and walkers.
Starting at Cheltenham Racecourse, the routes use public footpaths and sections of the Cheltenham Circular Footpath, Cotswold Way and Winchcombe Way, passing through glorious Cotswold countryside and offering fantastic views.
The 5k and 10k routes are reasonably level with some small inclines. The Half Marathon loop starts at around 60m elevation and climbs to 330m elevation, reaching the highest point in the Cotswolds. With undulations, the total climb on this loop is around 360m.
The Full Marathon course is 2 laps of the Half Marathon loop and the Ultra is 3 laps. The route lengths are approximate, having been measured by GPS and Google Earth, but are guaranteed to meet or exceed the stated event distances.
We were proud to be chosen by CCP as one of the charity partners of this event! We had a band of merry athletes sporting our new running vests take on the challenge of running various distances all in aid of James Hopkins Trust.
“Let them eat cake!”
To make some extra money on the day we came up with a cunning plan to raise more funds by asking for cakes to be donated so that we could sell them to the hungry runners! With huge thanks everyone who donated scrumptious homemade cakes for us to sell…..we were overwhelmed with how many we received (we had over 700 portions of cake donated!!!!) We did brilliantly and the cakes proved to be extremely popular post races!
