In December, we took part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge for the very first time. A 7 day fundraising campaign dedicated to building Kites Cabin, a purpose-built family liaison and wellbeing hub in our back garden supporting the families with life‑limited and life-threatened children in Gloucestershire.
We set ourselves a bold and optimistic target of £30,000. While we didn’t quite reach that figure, we are genuinely pleased and encouraged by the outcome. Over the course of the campaign, we raised an incredible £11,953.29, made up of a combination of generous pledges from local businesses and donations from individual supporters.
For a first-time campaign, we believe what we achieved was wonderful. It shows that there is real belief in Kites Cabin and in the difference it will make for families who rely on our services. Every donation, big or small, is a clear message of support and trust in the work we do and feel so passionately about.
It is important to mention that all of the funds raised will still go towards building Kites Cabin, just as planned. This campaign has given us a good start. Like many charities, we know that building something special often takes time, persistence, and multiple fundraising efforts.
The Christmas Challenge has also given us valuable experience and confidence. We’ve learned what works, how to tell our story more effectively and how to build momentum over a short campaign. These lessons will shape our future fundraising and help us get closer to our goal.
We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to every business, individual, and supporter who pledged, donated, shared our campaign or cheered us on. Your support brings Kites Cabin closer to reality and helps ensure that families facing the toughest circumstances are not alone.
While this campaign has moved us closer to our goal, we still need to raise further funds to make Kites Cabin a reality. Building the cabin is an essential next step in expanding our respite provision, and we are inviting local individuals, community groups, and businesses to support us where possible. Whether through donations, fundraising, or partnerships, every contribution brings us closer to opening this much‑needed space for families and staff.
