We understand how difficult it is to plan and enjoy a family day out, especially when you have a disabled child (or any other family member, of course). So much needs to be considered to decide whether or not it is going to be feasible to attend and often it is sadly decided that it isn’t. We have collated some ideas for accessible trips out below so you don’t have to…

Slimbridge WWT
  • Disabled parking
  • Changing places toilet and 6 accessible toilets
  • Hard surfaced level pathways
  • Fixed and portable hearing loops in key locations around the site, and large print guides and menus are available on request
  • 3 SEND friendly sensory backpacks available from our admissions desk, these are free for visitors to borrow on a first come first served basis. Each backpack contains 4 fidget items and ear defenders can be borrowed separately.
Cotswold Farm Park
  • Disabled parking
  • Disabled toilets and Changing places toilet
  • Wide pathways (some sloped)
  • Hearing Impaired- There is a wealth of written information around the Farm Park to explain it’s history, the farming year and the story of each of the breeds. If you would like a printed copy of our seasonal demonstrations and displays, please contact us at hello@cotswoldfarmpark.co.uk at least one week prior to your visit.
  • Visually Impaired- Various listening activities around the Farm Park. All audio explains the history of the breeds, wildlife and conservation efforts in the surrounding areas. Assistance dogs are allowed throughout the Farm Park (as long as they are working at the time).
Birdland and Jurassic Journey
  • Disabled parking (pay & display car park 1 min walk away)
  • 2 disabled toilets and a Changing Places toilet
  • Fully wheelchair accessible via tarmacked or gravel pathways
Museum of Gloucester
  • Disabled parking nearby in town centre car parks
  • Wheelchair accessible with lift to 1st floor
  • Disabled toilet (nearest Changing Places in Kings Walk Shopping Centre nearby)
  • Hearing impairments- Non soft close doors. Ground floor exhibits have rolling sound clips. Push button story telling in some areas. Hearing loops are installed on both the ground floor reception desk and the first floor gallery desk.
  • Visual Impairments- Uneven spotlighting on ground floor of museum. Glass standalone cabinets on ground floor exhibit space. Touch and feel objects available at request.
Pittville Park
  • Free disabled roadside parking around park
  • Accessible pathways
  • Disabled toilet and Changing Places toilet
  • Playground with level roundabout for wheelchair users
Chamwell Centre
  • Changing Places toilet
  • Hydrotherapy Pool (bookable)
  • Accessible Soft Play (bookable)
  • Playground
  • Café
Jet Age Museum
  • FREE entry (donations welcome)
  • Small car park with 2 disabled spaces. Roadside parking may be possible.
  • Disabled Toilet
  • Wheelchair accessible throughout the building but small steps to enter cockpits etc

Allsorts

Toy Library, based at the Stroud Activity Hub. This is where families can borrow toys and specialist equipment. Here members can get support from the team and other members, as well as take part in activities. As a pan-disability organisation, they welcome children and young people from 0-25 years old with any disability or additional need.

Families are invited to join Allsorts as members, giving them access to a wide range of new opportunities, people to meet and places to go. The Allsorts community is very welcoming and aims to be as inclusive as possible, taking into account family’s needs thoughts and aspirations.
